A Mountain of Anime News Arrived Over the Holidays

The Christmas holidays provide a multitude of activities far superior than checking the latest news: discovering surprises, feasting on delicious food, and employing deep breathing to avoid arguing with loved ones. I hope you managed to accomplish all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy developments came out over the break, and should you overlooked any, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Will Continue (In 2027)

Without a doubt the most shocking piece of news, the widely-criticized controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to stop the series' continuation. Season 3 will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they easily could have dubbed it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which might be a positive development. Yet, the main art for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they are probably teasing the fans.

Ruri Dragon Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a name for being an prestigious animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it first appeared in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series proved it still retained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now fans are thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production

Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been running for a while, and its sixth season was another outstanding entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

A further studio renowned for the artistic merit of its work, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and intriguing visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Season Two

Right after the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific air date has not been disclosed yet.
