Rob Edwards along with Gary O'Neil are two of the early names under consideration to succeed the former manager as head coach of Wolves.
The previous coach was dismissed on the weekend following the squad's ten-game winless beginning to the Premier League campaign.
Furthermore both candidates - each of whom have historic links to the club - are among the names to be considered by the Wolves ownership.
Edwards is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.
However the former Luton Town head coach - who played more than 100 of games for Wolves during his playing career - is said to be a strong contender for the position.
The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys backing from the Wolves directors as they begin the process of hiring a fresh head coach.
O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise contender, even though he would be a surprising appointment considering he was released by Wolves in the previous winter.
The former West Ham player is currently unemployed meaning the club would not be required to pay any compensation.
