Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Player the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and were in communication with the league office.

The team did not mention the player specifically in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Posted on Social Media

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete directly, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable

No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles

Rice missed the initial part of this season due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that left multiple people hurt. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

On the field, he concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
