The top legal official in Texas Ken Paxton is filing a lawsuit against the makers of Tylenol, alleging the firms hid alleged dangers that the medication presented to pediatric brain development.

The court filing arrives thirty days after President Donald Trump advocated an unsubstantiated connection between taking Tylenol - referred to as acetaminophen - during pregnancy and autism in young ones.

The attorney general is suing Johnson & Johnson, which once produced the drug, the only pain reliever suggested for pregnant women, and Kenvue, which currently produces it.

In a declaration, he stated they "betrayed America by gaining financially from discomfort and promoting medication without regard for the risks."

The company says there is lacking scientific proof tying acetaminophen to autism.

"These companies lied for decades, knowingly endangering millions to line their pockets," Paxton, from the Republican party, stated.

Kenvue said in a statement that it was "deeply concerned by the dissemination of inaccurate information on the reliability of acetaminophen and the potential impact that could have on the welfare of US mothers and children."

On its website, Kenvue also said it had "regularly reviewed the pertinent research and there is no credible data that demonstrates a verified association between taking paracetamol and autism spectrum disorder."

Organizations representing physicians and medical practitioners agree.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has declared acetaminophen - the primary component in acetaminophen - is among limited choices for expectant mothers to treat discomfort and fever, which can create major wellness concerns if left untreated.

"In more than two decades of research on the utilization of paracetamol in gestation, zero credible investigations has definitively established that the use of paracetamol in any stage of pregnancy leads to neurological conditions in offspring," the association stated.

The lawsuit references current declarations from the previous government in arguing the drug is allegedly unsafe.

Last month, Trump raised alarms from medical authorities when he instructed women during pregnancy to "fight like hell" not to use Tylenol when unwell.

Federal regulators then released a statement that medical professionals should consider limiting the usage of Tylenol, while also stating that "a proven link" between the drug and autism in young ones has not been established.

The Health Department head Kennedy, who oversees the Food and Drug Administration, had promised in April to undertake "extensive scientific investigation" that would identify the origin of autism in a short period.

But experts advised that finding a sole reason of autism spectrum disorder - thought by researchers to be the result of a intricate combination of inherited and surrounding conditions - would prove challenging.

Autism spectrum disorder is a category of enduring cognitive variation and condition that influences how persons encounter and engage with the surroundings, and is diagnosed using doctors' observations.

In his lawsuit, the attorney general - who supports Trump who is seeking the Senate - asserts Kenvue and J&J "deliberately disregarded and attempted to silence the research" around acetaminophen and autism.

The case attempts to require the firms "eliminate any promotional materials" that asserts acetaminophen is reliable for expectant mothers.

This legal action echoes the complaints of a collection of mothers and fathers of young ones with autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who took legal action against the manufacturers of acetaminophen in 2022.

The court threw out the case, stating investigations from the plaintiffs' authorities was inconclusive.
